What it tastes like

Juniper, juniper, more juniper. Then coriander, angelica, liquorice, all behaving themselves underneath. Tanqueray is the most juniper-led mainstream gin you can buy, and that is exactly why people who actually like gin buy it.

The 43.1% ABV is the secret weapon. Most supermarket gins sit at 37.5-40%. That extra few points means the botanicals push through tonic and ice without disappearing.

How to drink it

Gin and tonic. Always. A 1:3 pour with Indian tonic, a wedge of lime (not lemon), one big ice cube. That is the drink Tanqueray was made for.

Also brilliant in a Negroni, Tom Collins, or any classic where the gin is the star. Avoid in delicate floral cocktails: Tanqueray is too loud.
