Got an ingredient and not sure what to make?
Some of the most-asked-about ingredient combinations and the cocktails that put them to work. Pick anything you have on the shelf and the builder above will surface every drink that uses it.
Vodka + Red Bull
Most-searched energy cocktail combination. Try the Jagerbomb, the Vodka Red Bull, or any of the layered energy shots in our index.
Whiskey + Red Bull
Whiskey and Red Bull is the highball nobody admits they love. The Whisky Bull is the canonical pour. Pair with bourbon for a sweeter note, Irish for smoother lift.
Vodka + Monster Energy
White Monster is the classic mixer; try the White Lightning. Got the green can? Lime cordial and lemon vodka work too.
Whiskey + Coke
The most-poured highball on Earth. Classic Whiskey & Coke or upgrade to a Dirty Shirley with grenadine and lime.
Gin + Lemonade
Cloudy lemonade or sparkling, gin and lemonade is the laziest summer drink. The Tom Collins spec is gin + lemon + sugar + soda — sharper version of the same thing.
Tequila + Lime
Two ingredients, three classic cocktails: Tequila Sour, Paloma (with grapefruit), and the salt-rimmed Margarita if you’ve got triple sec.
Rum + Coke
Dark rum and Coke is the classic. Add a lime wedge and it becomes a Cuba Libre. Captain Morgan or Sailor Jerry’s give it spiced depth.
Vodka + Cranberry
The base of the Cosmopolitan, the Cape Cod, and the Sea Breeze. Add grapefruit, lime, or triple sec for variations.
Bourbon + Lemon
Bourbon and lemon juice is the spine of the Whiskey Sour. Add egg white for the foam, simple syrup to balance, and you’ve got the canonical pour.
Gin + Tonic
The simplest cocktail done well. Use a London Dry like Bombay Sapphire, premium tonic, big ice cube, lime or cucumber garnish.
How the Cocktail Builder works
Tick every bottle you’ve got in your cabinet. The builder checks the entire Drink Lab recipe index and shows you:
- Drinks you can make right now — every ingredient already on your shelf.
- Drinks you’re one ingredient away from — sorted by how often that one missing ingredient gets used elsewhere, so you can grab a high-utility bottle on your next bottle shop run.
- The ingredient ranking — see which bottle would unlock the most new cocktails if you added it.
Every drink in the results links to its full recipe with measurements, technique, garnish suggestions, and variations.
Common questions
How many cocktails are in the builder?
Currently 4,900+ recipes across cocktails, shots, mocktails, punches, smoothies, and seasonal drinks. New recipes get added weekly.
What if I’m missing one ingredient?
The builder shows drinks you’re one bottle away from, sorted by how widely that bottle is used. Buying triple sec unlocks 80+ drinks. Buying creme de violette unlocks 4. The builder ranks accordingly.
Can I save my cabinet?
Yes – the builder remembers your selections between visits if you let it set a cookie. Useful if you restock infrequently.
What if I only have one bottle?
You still get options. A bottle of vodka alone, with mixers most people have (lemon, lime, sugar, soda), unlocks dozens of cocktails. The builder shows you which drinks you can make with just your one bottle plus basic mixers.
