What it tastes like
Apricot, banana, vanilla, oak, a slightly funky Jamaican backbone. The estate-grown sugar cane and limestone-filtered water give it a mineral edge. Drier than most aged rums at this price.
Drinks with real character but not aggressively. Polished pot-still funk.
How to drink it
Mai Tai, Hemingway Daiquiri, Rum Old Fashioned, Mojito with extra body. Anywhere you want pot-still character without going full Smith & Cross.
Decent neat for a 25-dollar rum. Skip it in soft, neutral cocktails where the Jamaican funk is unwelcome.

The oldest distillery in Jamaica
Appleton Estate has been making rum at Nassau Valley, Jamaica, since 1749. The estate grows its own sugar cane, ferments and distills on site, and ages everything in Jamaica. Joy Spence has been the master blender since 1997, the first woman in the world to hold the role at a major rum distillery.
Campari Group bought the brand in 2012 and has kept production traditional.
Why pros stock Appleton Signature
For the price, no other rum delivers this much character. The 4-year minimum age, the pot-and-column blend, the actual estate provenance, the dryness, all stack up. Appleton is the bottle bartenders pick when they want one rum that does most jobs.

What does Appleton Signature taste like?
Apricot, banana, vanilla, oak, with a slightly funky Jamaican backbone. Drier than Diplomatico, lighter than Smith & Cross, more characterful than Bacardi 8.
Appleton vs Mount Gay XO?
Appleton is fruitier and slightly funkier (Jamaican). Mount Gay is oakier and more balanced (Bajan). Appleton is the cocktail bargain; Mount Gay XO is the sipping upgrade at twice the price.
