What it tastes like
Slightly sweet from the corn base, soft, with a faint vanilla note. Distilled six times in pot stills (most vodkas use column stills). Fuller-bodied than grain vodkas, drinks closer to a softer Polish vodka than to Smirnoff.
One of the few mid-priced vodkas that is genuinely worth sipping. Drinks well over rocks with a lemon twist.

From Texas garage to global brand
Tito Beveridge (real name) started Tito’s in an Austin garage in 1997. He spent ten years scaling slowly, not investing in marketing. Tito’s became the most-poured vodka in America by the late 2010s on the strength of word-of-mouth and bartender recommendation. Almost no advertising; the brand grew because the product is genuinely good.
Still privately owned. Still made in Austin. The ‘handmade’ claim is now contested as Tito’s has scaled massively (the lawsuits over the term went nowhere) but the spirit itself remains pot-distilled, which is unusual at this price.
Best cocktails to make with Tito’s Handmade Vodka
Tito’s is the modern American default vodka. Use it confidently anywhere vodka is called for.

Frequently Asked Questions
Direct answers to what people ask about this bottle.
What is Tito’s vodka?
Tito’s Handmade Vodka is a corn-based, six-times-distilled American vodka made in Austin, Texas, by Mockingbird Distillery. Founded in 1997 by Tito Beveridge. Bottled at 40% ABV. Currently the most-poured vodka in the US.
Is Tito’s vodka gluten-free?
Yes. Tito’s is made from corn (which contains no gluten) and the distillation process would remove any trace gluten anyway. It is the most-recommended vodka for celiac drinkers.
Tito’s vs Grey Goose?
Different price tiers. Tito’s is mid-tier American corn vodka, around $25-30. Grey Goose is premium French wheat vodka, around $40-50. For mixers, Tito’s wins on value. For Vodka Martini, Grey Goose edges it.
What does Tito’s taste like?
Slightly sweet, soft, faint vanilla note. Fuller-bodied than typical grain vodkas (Smirnoff). Drinks closer to a Polish potato vodka than to most mass-market vodkas. The pot-still production is unusual at this price and shows.
Is Tito’s actually handmade?
Contested. The brand grew from a one-person garage operation to enormous scale and the ‘handmade’ claim survived multiple lawsuits. The spirit is still pot-distilled (uncommon at this price), which the brand uses to defend the term. Decide for yourself how literally to take it.
Why is Tito’s so popular in the US?
Tito’s grew almost entirely on bartender recommendation and word-of-mouth, with very little marketing. The product is genuinely good for the price, the gluten-free angle attracted celiac drinkers, and the American (Texas) provenance gave it cultural identity. Took roughly 15 years to dominate; now the most-poured vodka in America.
Is Tito’s good for sipping?
Better than most mid-tier vodkas. Drink it neat over one ice cube with a lemon twist. Not as smooth as premium sipping vodkas (Belvedere Heritage, Reyka) but it punches above its price.
