Vodka is mostly a price ladder
Most vodka tastes very similar at the same price band. The differences are real but small. The big lines are: budget (Smirnoff, Absolut), mid (Tito’s, Ketel One), premium (Grey Goose, Belvedere), and craft (varies).
For cocktails: budget vodka is almost always fine because the other ingredients dominate. For sipping or for showcase Martinis: premium pays off.
What vodka actually suits which drink
Bloody Mary, Vodka Tonic, Moscow Mule: budget is fine. Tomato or ginger does the work.
Cosmopolitan, Espresso Martini, Lemon Drop: mid-tier (Tito’s, Absolut Citron) is the sweet spot.
Vodka Martini: premium. Grey Goose, Belvedere, Reyka. The vodka is the drink.
Vodka neat (yes really): premium chilled vodka with caviar is a thing. Reyka, Belvedere Heritage 176, or anything Polish or Icelandic.

Frequently Asked Questions
Direct answers to what people ask about the Bottle Library.
Is expensive vodka actually better?
For sipping, yes. For cocktails, usually not. Once vodka goes into a Bloody Mary or a Vodka Tonic, you cannot taste a $50 vodka over a $25 vodka. For Vodka Martinis or chilled neat sipping, premium pays off.
What is the best vodka for a Vodka Martini?
Premium and very cold. Belvedere, Reyka, Grey Goose, or Ketel One. Chill the bottle in the freezer for at least four hours before serving.
Tito’s vs Grey Goose?
Tito’s is cheaper, mid-tier, American (Texan), corn-based, Texas-shelf-favourite. Grey Goose is premium, French, wheat-based, the bottle bartenders pour for showcase Martinis. For mixers Tito’s wins on value. For sipping or hero Martinis Grey Goose edges it.
Is vodka gluten-free?
Most vodka is gluten-free even when distilled from grain. The distillation removes gluten. If you are extremely sensitive, look for potato vodka (Chopin) or grape vodka (Ciroc).
What is the most popular vodka in the world?
Smirnoff. By volume it is the largest-selling spirit brand globally. Cheap, neutral, available everywhere.
