What it tastes like
Soft pear and apple, light vanilla and oak, a hint of malt. No peat. Drinks like a polite, well-mannered Scotch. Perfect for someone who finds Islay malts too smoky and Speyside is the right answer.
Drinks beautifully neat over one ice cube. Better in a Highland Highball (Glenfiddich plus soda plus a lemon peel) than in spirit-forward stirred drinks.

Why it’s everywhere
Glenfiddich was the first single malt Scotch marketed internationally as a single malt, in the 1960s. Until then, Scotch was overwhelmingly sold as blends. Glenfiddich’s family-owned distillery (William Grant & Sons, still independent) bet on single malt and won the category.
The 12 Year Old is the entry expression, the one most people buy first. The 15 Year Solera, 18 Year, and 21 Year Gran Reserva are the upgrades worth knowing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Direct answers to what people ask about this bottle.
What is Glenfiddich 12 Year Old?
A single malt Scotch whisky made at the Glenfiddich distillery in Dufftown, Speyside, Scotland. Aged 12 years in oak casks. Bottled at 40% ABV. Owned by William Grant & Sons (independent, family-owned).
Is Glenfiddich 12 good for beginners?
Yes, exceptionally. It’s the most-recommended starter single malt for a reason: soft, fruity, no aggressive peat. People who don’t think they like Scotch usually like Glenfiddich 12.
What does Glenfiddich 12 taste like?
Soft pear, apple, light vanilla, mild oak, faint malt. No peat or smoke. Smoother and fruitier than Islay malts, slightly more refined than Glenlivet 12.
Glenfiddich vs Glenlivet?
Both Speyside single malts, similar profile and price. Glenfiddich is slightly drier and more apple-led; Glenlivet is slightly sweeter and more pear-led. Most drinkers can’t distinguish them blind. Pick by which label you prefer.
Is Glenfiddich a single malt?
Yes. Single malt means made entirely from malted barley at a single distillery. Glenfiddich is one distillery, all malted barley, aged in oak. Compare to blends like Johnnie Walker (multiple distilleries, malt and grain).
What’s Glenfiddich 12 best mixed with?
Soda water. The Highland Highball (Scotch plus soda plus lemon peel) is brilliant. Don’t waste it in cola or in heavy stirred cocktails. For mixed drinks, Johnnie Walker Black or another blend is the better choice.
Are there older Glenfiddich expressions?
Yes. 14 Year Bourbon Barrel, 15 Year Solera, 18 Year, 21 Year Gran Reserva, 26 Year, 30 Year, and limited rare bottlings. The 15 Solera is the everyday upgrade; the 18 Year is the gift-grade pour.
Is Glenfiddich gluten-free?
Yes. Distillation removes gluten. Confirmed by William Grant & Sons.
