World’s oldest licensed distillery
Bushmills was granted a distilling licence in 1608 by King James I. That makes it the oldest continuously licensed distillery on Earth. The distillery itself has had ups and downs (fires, ownership changes) but the location and the licence have held for over 400 years.
Currently owned by Proximo Spirits (an American company). Diageo owned it briefly; Pernod Ricard owns Jameson. The two big Irish whiskey brands have parallel histories and pretty different fan bases.
