Where it came from

The Cosmopolitan owns the 1990s. The Blood Orange Cosmo updates it for the seasonal cocktail era when blood oranges hit the market in winter and bartenders want a January drink that does not feel like leftover Christmas.

It is a stretch of the original Cosmopolitan template, with blood orange juice replacing some of the cranberry and an orange vodka swap for the standard.

What it tastes like

Blood orange tartness on the lead, soft cranberry on the mid, lime brightness on the finish. Orange vodka adds depth without sweetness. Triple sec ties everything together.

Blood orange juice is seasonal. Outside winter the drink works with regular orange and a splash of grenadine for colour.
