Where it came from

Sex on the Beach kicked off the family in the 1980s. Then came Screaming Orgasm, Multiple Orgasm, and finally this kitchen-sink version that puts five sweet liqueurs in one glass for maximum theatre.

It is a chain bar menu drink. The name is the marketing, the recipe is whatever the bartender wants as long as it stays sweet and fruit-forward.

What it tastes like

Peach and melon up front, almond from the amaretto behind, coconut rum and triple sec rounding the back. The club soda lifts it from sticky to drinkable.

Plenty of ice and a fresh club soda are the keys. Without dilution this drink goes cloying in two sips.

Ingredient Spotlight

The bottles that make or break this drink.

The peach and melon

Use
Peach schnapps and Midori
Why
These are the loudest two liqueurs in the build

The coconut rum

Use
Malibu Original
Why
Adds the tropical without going over the top

The amaretto

Use
Disaronno
Why
The almond is the unexpected thread that keeps it from being just fruit syrup

Variations

Other drinks in the same family.

What if I don't have…

Quick substitutions for when the bottle shop is closed.

No Midori?

Bols Melon or any green melon liqueur.

No Malibu?

White rum plus a teaspoon of cream of coconut.

No amaretto?

Skip it. Drink loses depth but works as a four-liqueur version.

No club soda?

Sprite or 7Up for sweeter, tonic for drier.

Want it shorter?

Build in a rocks glass with crushed ice and skip the soda top.

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers to what people search for after Googling this drink.

How strong is it?
Around 11 percent ABV. The juices and soda dilute heavily.
Is this the same as Sex on the Beach?
Same family. Sex on the Beach uses peach, vodka and OJ. This version stacks more liqueurs.
Garnish?
Orange wheel and a maraschino cherry. The classic three-cherry chain works too.
Can I shake it?
Build is more common. A shake works but the soda needs to be added after.
What food works?
Salty bar snacks. The drink is sweet enough that anything contrast helps.
