Bacardi Superior

The white rum that built the Daiquiri. Filtered, mild, neutral, designed to disappear into a cocktail and let the lime do the talking. Bacardi Superior is the world’s best-selling rum for a reason: it just works.

What it tastes like

Light, dry, slight vanilla, faint coconut, a clean finish. Charcoal-filtered after fermentation, which strips out colour and most of the funk you’d find in pot-still white rums.

Drinks like a blank canvas. Mixes with anything. Doesn’t fight you.

How to drink it

Daiquiri, Mojito, Cuba Libre, Pina Colada. The classics that don’t want a heavy rum. The one rum every home bar needs first.

Skip it for sipping neat. Bacardi Superior is meant to mix.

The white rum that defined a category

Bacardi started in Santiago de Cuba in 1862, moved to Puerto Rico after the Cuban revolution, and now distils in Catano. The Superior bottling is the entry-level white rum and the most-poured rum in the world.

Charcoal filtration was Bacardi’s innovation in the 1860s. It is the reason most people associate white rum with cleanness and neutrality.

Why bartenders pour it

Predictability. Bacardi Superior tastes the same in every bottle, in every country, year after year. That makes it useful when you’re building cocktails. The premium light rums (Plantation 3 Stars, Havana Club 3, Diplomatico Planas) deliver more character; Bacardi delivers more reliability.

Best cocktails to make with Bacardi Superior

Bacardi Superior is the white rum for any classic. Mojitos and Daiquiris first, everything else second.

How it stacks up

How Bacardi Superior compares to other white rums.

Mount Gay Silver Light, citrus Mojito, batched cocktails

Substitutions and swaps

Bacardi Superior swaps for almost any unspecified white rum.

Recipe says white rum?

Bacardi is the safe call. Sub at 1:1.

Recipe says aged white rum?

Plantation 3 Stars or Havana Club 3 Year is the upgrade.

Want more funk?

Plantation 3 Stars or Banks 5 Island bring more character.

Out of white rum?

Pisco or vodka is a stretch but works in a Mojito at a push.

Recipe says spiced rum?

Don’t sub. Reach for Sailor Jerry or Captain Morgan.

Skip if

You want rum to be a flavour. Bacardi is a vehicle for other flavours.

You’re sipping neat. Buy Bacardi 8 Year or any aged rum from this range.

You want pot-still funk. Plantation, Smith & Cross, or any Jamaican white is the move.

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers to what people ask about this bottle.

What is Bacardi Superior rum?

Bacardi Superior is a white (light) rum made by Casa Bacardi in Catano, Puerto Rico. It is column-distilled, briefly aged in oak, then charcoal-filtered to remove colour and bottled at 37.5% ABV. The world’s best-selling rum.

Is Bacardi Superior good rum?

Yes for cocktails, especially classic white-rum drinks. It is not a sipping rum and not an exciting one in the glass; it is a reliable, neutral cocktail base.

What does Bacardi Superior taste like?

Light, dry, slight vanilla, faint coconut. Cleaner and more neutral than Plantation 3 Stars, Havana Club, or Mount Gay Silver. The point is exactly that neutrality.

Bacardi vs Captain Morgan?

Different rums for different jobs. Bacardi Superior is white and unflavoured: built for Mojitos and Daiquiris. Captain Morgan Original is spiced and sweetened: built for cola.

Why is Bacardi Superior so cheap?

Massive scale, efficient column distillation, minimal ageing, and no premium pricing strategy. Bacardi sells the volume that keeps the price down.

Can you drink Bacardi Superior neat?

You can but most people won’t enjoy it. The white rum is built to mix. Bacardi 8 Year, Bacardi Reserva Ocho, or any aged Bacardi is the sipper.

Is Bacardi Superior gluten-free?

Yes. Made from sugarcane molasses, no grain, naturally gluten-free.

What is the best cocktail to make with Bacardi Superior?

A Daiquiri: 60ml Bacardi Superior, 25ml fresh lime, 15ml simple syrup, shake, strain. Or a Mojito with mint, lime, sugar, and soda.
