What it tastes like

Vanilla, banana, citrus zest, faint molasses, dry finish, slight pot-still funk. The blend of three islands gives more body than Bacardi but stays clear and crisp. The charcoal filter strips the colour without stripping the flavour.

Drinks at 41.2% with real lift. Holds up against ice and citrus.

How to drink it

Hemingway Daiquiri, classic Daiquiri, Mojito, anything where the rum should taste of something. The Daiquiri rum a lot of bartenders pick over Bacardi and Havana Club 3.

Decent neat for a white rum. Skip it in tiki where you actually want darker rum.

Maison Ferrand and the Plantation experiment

Maison Ferrand is the cognac house behind Plantation rum. They source rums from across the Caribbean, ship them to France, and finish ageing in cognac casks. Plantation 3 Stars is the white-rum entry to the range, designed specifically for mixing.

The blend (Trinidad for column distillate, Barbados for body, Jamaica for funk) is finished in stainless steel and bottles unaged. The colour is removed by charcoal filter so it works in clean cocktails.

Why pros pick it

Plantation 3 Stars sits at the crossroads of cheap and characterful. Bacardi is cleaner and cheaper. Diplomatico Planas is fuller and twice the price. 3 Stars is the sweet spot for a serious home Daiquiri.

Best cocktails to make with Plantation 3 Stars

Substitutions and swaps

Plantation 3 Stars upgrades any white rum call without breaking the budget.

Recipe says white rum?

Plantation 3 Stars is the upgrade. Drink will be more characterful.

Recipe says Bacardi?

Plantation 3 Stars makes a more interesting Daiquiri. Sub at 1:1.

Want more funk?

Probitas, Smith & Cross overproof, or any Jamaican white pushes harder.

Want more neutrality?

Bacardi Superior is cleaner.

Out of white rum?

Pisco can sub at a stretch in a Daiquiri. Vodka kills the drink.

Skip if

You’re making a soft, mild Mojito. Bacardi or Havana Club 3 are the cleaner picks.

You’re making cola drinks. Plantation 3 Stars is wasted there.

You want pure pot-still Jamaican funk. Probitas or Smith & Cross is the move.
