Where the name comes from

Bartender named-after-Batman drinks have been around since the 2010s. The Bruce Wayne version of the hot bourbon coffee fits the character. Dark, brooding, no nonsense, no decoration.

It is part of the broader hot-coffee-cocktail category that includes the Irish Coffee, the Spanish Coffee and the Karsk. Bourbon plus coffee plus a sweetener is the universal template.

What it tastes like

Bitter coffee on the lead, vanilla bourbon on the mid, maple sweetness on the finish. The maple is what makes the drink. Sugar would taste flat in the same role.

Strong coffee is non-negotiable. Anything less than a strong filter or a long pull espresso and the bourbon takes over.

No maple syrup?

Brown sugar simple syrup or Demerara syrup.

Want it boozier?

Double the bourbon and cut the coffee.

Want it dessert-style?

Top with cream and a dust of cinnamon. Now it is closer to Irish Coffee.

Hot or iced?

Both work. Pour over ice in a rocks glass for an iced version.

Then it is just bourbon and maple, which is fine, but it is a different drink.
What glass?
A heatproof Irish Coffee glass or a heavy mug. Thin glass cracks with hot coffee.
Garnish?
