Nude Beach Shot

A three-spirit creamy shot with a peach and coconut nose, finished with a float of cream. Fast pour, easy round, novelty name. Drinks like a Sex on the Beach with the volume turned down to a single shot.

Prep Time: 2 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Peach schnapps, Malibu coconut rum, orange juice, cream. The Sex on the Beach with the swimsuit off. Sweet, tropical, creamy.

Ingredients

  • 10 ml Peach schnapps
  • 10 ml Malibu coconut rum
  • 10 ml Orange juice
  • 5 ml Cream (or half-and-half)

Instructions

  • Add the peach schnapps, Malibu, and orange juice to a shaker with ice.
  • Shake briefly (5-7 seconds) just to combine and chill.
  • Strain into a tall 30ml shot glass.
  • Float the cream on top by pouring slowly over the back of a bar spoon.
  • Drink in one — the cream layer mixes as you tip the glass.

Notes

Use chilled cream — pours cleaner over the spoon. If you don't have a bar spoon, drizzle the cream slowly down the inside of the glass instead.

Where it came from

The Nude Beach is the shot-glass cousin of the Sex on the Beach cocktail. Same flavour family, smaller format, faster delivery. It surfaced in late-1990s American beach-bar culture, when shooter menus were busy renaming every full-size cocktail into a 30 ml format.

The recipe is short by design. Peach schnapps, coconut rum, orange juice and a float of cream. No mixers, no muddling, no garnish. A bartender can pour eight at a time without slowing the bar down.

It is a buy-the-round drink. Hens nights, beach bachelorettes, last-orders trays. Not a cocktail-snob drink and not a sit-down drink.

What it tastes like

Peach and coconut up front, fresh orange juice through the middle, a creamy finish that mellows the schnapps. Sweeter than a regular shot, lighter than a creamy shot.

About 18 percent ABV in the glass. Two thirds spirit, one third juice and cream. Drinks fast because the cream takes the bite off the alcohol.

The technique

Build directly in a shot glass. Pour peach schnapps, coconut rum and orange juice. Float the cream over the back of a bar spoon so it sits as a layer on top.

Use a 30 ml shot glass, not a 50 ml. The ratios are calibrated for a single short pour.

Ingredient Spotlight

The bottles that make or break this drink.

The peach schnapps

Use
Archers, DeKuyper or any quality peach schnapps.
Skip
Peach syrup or peach liqueur with no alcohol weight.
Why
Peach schnapps is the headline flavour. A weak schnapps reads as candy, a good one reads as fruit.

The coconut rum

Use
Malibu or Captain Morgan Loconut.
Skip
Coconut cream. It separates and curdles in the glass.
Why
Coconut rum carries the tropical edge that ties the schnapps to the orange juice. Without it the shot reads flat.

The cream float

Use
Single cream or half-and-half, very cold.
Skip
Whipped cream, double cream, or anything heavy. They sink the float.
Why
The cream is the visual layer and the flavour seal. Float it slowly over the back of a spoon.

Three Variations

Three real ways bartenders riff on this drink. Same idea, three different jackets.

The dressed-up version

Nude Beach Float
Use a quality cream liqueur instead of plain cream and add a dash of vanilla extract. Drinks closer to a dessert shot.

The Aussie version

Aussie Nude Beach
Use mango juice instead of orange juice and a splash of fresh lime. Tropical-leaning, less sweet.

The party version

Nude Beach Tray
Pour twelve at once into a divided shot tray, line up at the bar, fire on a count. Buck’s night staple.

What if I don't have…

Quick substitutions for when the bottle shop is closed.

No peach schnapps?

Apricot brandy or a peach liqueur with similar sweetness. Tastes a touch stonier, still lands.

No coconut rum?

White rum plus a teaspoon of coconut syrup. The coconut nose returns, the rum stays clean.

No fresh orange juice?

Bottled orange juice. The drink loses some brightness but stays balanced. Avoid orange-flavoured drink.

No cream?

A teaspoon of full-fat coconut milk. Reads more tropical, less classic. A teaspoon of condensed milk also works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers to what people search for after Googling this drink.

What is in a Nude Beach shot?

Ten ml each of peach schnapps, coconut rum and orange juice, finished with five ml of cream floated on top, served in a 30 ml shot glass.

How do you make a Nude Beach shot?

Pour the schnapps, coconut rum and orange juice into a shot glass. Float the cream over the back of a bar spoon so it sits as a top layer.

What does a Nude Beach shot taste like?

Peach and coconut up front, orange juice in the middle, a creamy finish. Drinks lighter than a Sex on the Beach because the cream rounds the edges.

Is a Nude Beach shot strong?

About 18 percent ABV in the glass. Twenty ml of spirit in a 35 ml shot. Drinks fast because the cream softens the burn.

Where did the Nude Beach shot come from?

Late-1990s American beach-bar shooter culture. The drink is the shot-format cousin of the Sex on the Beach cocktail.

Can I make a Nude Beach without coconut rum?

Yes. Use white rum and a teaspoon of coconut syrup. The coconut nose returns and the math holds.

What kind of cream should I use?

Single cream or half-and-half, very cold. It floats easier than double cream and reads less heavy than condensed milk.

How many calories are in a Nude Beach shot?

Around 65 calories per shot. The cream adds about 15, the schnapps about 25, the rum and juice the rest.

What glass do you serve a Nude Beach shot in?

A 30 ml standard shot glass. Anything larger throws off the ratios.

Can I make a Nude Beach mocktail?

Yes. Skip the schnapps and rum, use peach nectar and a teaspoon of coconut syrup with the orange juice and cream. Same flavour, no kick.
